Susan Burroughs
Susan’s expertise is in improving literacy teaching and learning.
Susan is a trained Fountas & Pinnell Literacy Consultant and speaks regularly on literacy issues at
conferences in Canada and the U.S. She has extensive hands-on experience facilitating teams of
teachers, principals and superintendents in the planning, design, delivery and evaluation of
literacy initiatives.
In the past 25 years, she has worked with different school systems in Quebec and Ontario in
various capacities; classroom and Special Education teacher, Reading Recovery Teacher Leader,
and Language Arts Consultant. In 2008, she joined Toronto District School Board program
department as an Instructional Leader in Literacy. She served for four years as Executive
Director of the Canadian Institute of Reading Recovery. Susan authored 20 books in the guided
reading series, The Porcupine Collection (Curriculum Plus), used in many Canadian and U.S.
classrooms.
In her role as an education consultant, she brings a high level of knowledge and skill in teaching
struggling readers to school systems across Canada. As a qualified trainer, facilitator and
presenter, she works directly with teachers and school administrators on literacy issues.
