The ATA Social Studies Specialist Council and the ATA Women in Leadership Specialist Councils of Southern Alberta have combined to create this learning opportunity with technical support provided by the Southern Alberta Professional Development Consortium. This live event from Lethbridge might be accessed online.

Salon Conversation Description: The purpose of this gathering is to engage a wide ranging group of teachers (as citizens) in an energetic discussion about the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the future of everything.

Participants online are encouraged to have a few snacks and a beverage available to join in on the presentations and actively participate in the two breakout sessions built into the evening.

Online participants will view and listen in on the introductory comments and provocative questions for consideration and the first breakout follow-up catalyst conversation as delivered by Dr. Phil McRae.

The intent is to participate in a salon format and, in doing so, open up an honest and civil discussion about the contemporary nature of artificial intelligence and how it will change everything in education (issues of ethics, algorithmic bias, surveillance, assessment, democracy, cognitive atrophy and moral passivity).

The evening is about inspiring a new conversation and will have three acts of exchange: hors d'oeuvres, catalyst discussion, and dessert. Each exchange will bring new questions and provocations around artificial intelligence in education and across society, followed by a small group debate and a large group discussion.
