The in-person participants for this session will participate with the presenters at the SAPDC Learning Suite in LCI High School in Lethbridge for the day.

The session will be broadcast via zoom to those attending remotely.  This hybrid model would allow small groups to gather in their school or a division office to participate and share with the collective group. Additionally, in breakout moments, we would be able to connect individual online participants with others in breakout rooms.

The University of Florida Literacy Institute Essential Background Knowledge training will provide educators with the necessary knowledge to support the development of foundational literacy skills. The session will provide an overview of research on reader development and principles of effective reading instruction and intervention. We then take a closer look at the key foundational reading skills UFLI Foundations addresses: phonemic awareness, alphabet knowledge, decoding, encoding, and oral reading fluency.
