Educational practices are transitioning from a focus on teaching to a focus on learning. Division and school leaders are striving to develop leadership within the teacher ranks to better support these significant reforms. This two-day training will provide aspiring teacher leaders and those new to leadership roles with the mindsets and skill sets to take on new and expanded leadership roles with a focus on:
  • understanding leadership and leadership principles,
  • the importance of building and maintaining effective relationships
  • the role of instructional leadership within a learning community.
 
Day 1
  • Reflection on what it means to be a leader of learning
  • Understanding of the importance of identity for effective leadership
  • Application of frameworks for leadership
  • Understanding of adult learning theory
  • Awareness of research on trust in schools
 
Day 2
  • Awareness of points of intervention for successful leadership
  • Distinguish dialogue and discussion
  • Skills with paraphrasing and asking questions for growth
  • Understanding of characteristics of effective meetings
  • Repertoire of strategies for use in meeting facilitation
