This full day workshop has been created for elementary teachers who are looking for ways to enhance their writing instruction. This interactive session will focus on varied purposes of writing, building a classroom community of writers, and will address strategies that both enhance and encourage kids’ love of writing. Practical examples, student work samples, assessment practice, classroom-ready ideas and writing workshop models will be explored. Come prepared for fun and great discussions with three crazy writing teachers.

Jennifer LeGrandeur

Jennifer LeGrandeur is in her 19^th year of teaching, and is currently the Learning Support Teacher at Park Meadows Elementary School in Lethbridge, Ab, where her main role is to support teachers and students in the implementation of Writing Workshop school- wide. Jen works closely with teachers, but is also involved in the classroom, teaching writing and working with whole class and small groups of students. Previously, Jen has taught grades 6-9 in Taber and Wetaskiwin, and was also the Learning Support Teacher at Senator Buchanan Elementary School in Lethbridge for 7 years. Jen completed her Masters of Education in Curriculum and Assessment in May 2016, and completed a 2 year secondment at the University of Lethbridge where she taught Assessment and Educational Psychology to Education students in the Faculty of Education.

Patti Caven

Patti Caven has been teaching for 12 years, and is currently teaching grade 1 at Coalbanks Elementary School in Lethbridge, AB. She is passionate about teaching literacy, and loves when her students find their voice in their writing. Patti’s greatest joy is when her students accomplish tasks and achieve their goals. She is a big fan of Dr. Seuss, and her mission statement is borrowed from him: “Don’t give up, I believe in you all! A person’s a person, no matter how small.”

In addition to being a teacher, Patti spends her time with her husband of 25 years and her two grown children. They love to travel, play golf, take road trips in their Jeep, and spend time with family and friends in their yard.

Crystal Packard

Crystal Packard has been teaching for 14 years, and is currently in her fourth year of teaching grade 1 at Dr. Probe School. Crystal received her B.Ed from the University of Regina in 2002 and has experience teaching grades 1-4 in Lethbridge School District #51. Crystal is dedicated to being a lifelong learner, through her ongoing passion for literacy and assessment. Crystal is a collaborator and team player, and loves to share and gain new ideas from others.
